Leicester 5-0 Newcastle | Rampant Foxes crush listless Magpies

Leicester opened a two point gap in third place over Arsenal as they crushed Steve Bruce’s Newcastle 5-0 at the King Power Stadium over the weekend. The Magpies had been the only team to have beaten Leicester in the league under Brendan Rodgers, but there was to be no repeat of their April 2019 win as they failed to even muster a single shot on target.

With Arsenal and West Ham both drawing, Leicester are now two points ahead of the duo.

After surviving an early spell of Newcastle pressure, Leicester opened their account in style with RB Ricardo producing a fine solo run down the right flank before finishing brilliantly to put the home side 1-0. Continue reading

Maguire and Chilwell involved as England finish third in the inaugural Nations League

The Leicester duo of Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell had to be content with third place as England took bronze at the inaugural Nations League. Both Maguire and Chilwell started in the semi-final against the Netherlands, which England lost 3-1 in extra time, and played the full 120 minutes.

In the third place playoff, Maguire started, but Chilwell was dropped to the bench as Danny Rose replaced him at left back. The game was a goalless stalemate. It eventually went to penalties, where Maguire took and successfully converted the first spot kick for England as the Three Lions won the shootout 6-5.

Maguire was the only defender to play in both UNL games for England. Manager Gareth Southgate used Chilwell-Maguire-Stones-Walker against the Dutch, and Rose-Maguire-Gomez-Alexander Arnold against the Swiss.

James Maddison and Demarai Gray, both of whom had been called up to the national squad in the last twelve months, failed to make the cut for Portugal.

Season in review- Leicester City

How was the 2018/19 Premier League season for Leicester City? The Foxes finished 9th for the second season in succession, picking up 52 points from 38 league games. Better than expected, or worse? We at Leicester Talk take a look.

Pretty good season all things considered

It would’ve obviously been nice to finish seventh- that would certainly have been the aim of the Foxes when they began the season, but 9th isn’t too bad when you consider everything- the troubled start and sacking of Claude Puel, the tragedy involving Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and the departure of star man Riyad Mahrez at the beginning of the season to Man City.

Bar that wonder 2015/16 season, the 18/19 one actually represents Leicester’s highest Premier League points tally since they got promoted back to the top flight in 2014. They also finished 9th in 2017/18, but only picked up 47 points. This season, they crossed the 50 point barrier. Continue reading
