Leicester 5-0 Newcastle | Rampant Foxes crush listless Magpies

Leicester opened a two point gap in third place over Arsenal as they crushed Steve Bruce’s Newcastle 5-0 at the King Power Stadium over the weekend. The Magpies had been the only team to have beaten Leicester in the league under Brendan Rodgers, but there was to be no repeat of their April 2019 win as they failed to even muster a single shot on target.

With Arsenal and West Ham both drawing, Leicester are now two points ahead of the duo.

After surviving an early spell of Newcastle pressure, Leicester opened their account in style with RB Ricardo producing a fine solo run down the right flank before finishing brilliantly to put the home side 1-0. Continue reading

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire has officially completed his switch to Manchester United today (August 5, 2019). The Foxes had accepted United’s offer last week and Maguire has passed his medical and put pen to paper a six year deal at Old Trafford.

Maguire and Chilwell involved as England finish third in the inaugural Nations League

The Leicester duo of Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell had to be content with third place as England took bronze at the inaugural Nations League. Both Maguire and Chilwell started in the semi-final against the Netherlands, which England lost 3-1 in extra time, and played the full 120 minutes.

In the third place playoff, Maguire started, but Chilwell was dropped to the bench as Danny Rose replaced him at left back. The game was a goalless stalemate. It eventually went to penalties, where Maguire took and successfully converted the first spot kick for England as the Three Lions won the shootout 6-5.

Maguire was the only defender to play in both UNL games for England. Manager Gareth Southgate used Chilwell-Maguire-Stones-Walker against the Dutch, and Rose-Maguire-Gomez-Alexander Arnold against the Swiss.

James Maddison and Demarai Gray, both of whom had been called up to the national squad in the last twelve months, failed to make the cut for Portugal.

Leicester Tigers survive relegation from the Premiership, but only just

Published / by Leicester Talk Blog / Leave a Comment

Perhaps the worst season in recent memory for a Tigers fan. Never have they finished in the bottom half of the Premiership Rugby table, and came perilously close this season, but just about survived the drop. The lowest the club had finished in the previous two decades was 6th in the 2002-03 season. This year, they finished 11th, just above bottom of the table Falcons.

Leicester lost a whopping 15 games and had the worst defensive record in the Gallagher Premiership. No one conceded more points than the Midlands outfit (632)- not even relegated Newcastle. They let in 81 tries, and scored only 47. Painful viewing if you’re a Tigers fan, but they did manage to survive the drop, and it’s a case of onwards and upwards in the 2019/20 season.
