Leicester City defender Harry Maguire has officially completed his switch to Manchester United today (August 5, 2019). The Foxes had accepted United’s offer last week and Maguire has passed his medical and put pen to paper a six year deal at Old Trafford.
Maguire is the second big name defensive signing for United this season (after Aaron Wan Bissaka from Crystal Palace) and will be competing with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones for a spot in the XI.
United are expected to start with a back four of Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Maguire and Wan-Bissaka, which looks like a vast improvement on their defence from last season.
The deal also sees Maguire eclipse Virgil van Dijk as the world’s most expensive defender. It also represents a significant profit for Leicester, who bought him for £17m from Hull two years ago.
The Foxes are reportedly looking at Nathan Ake and James Tarkowski as potential replacements for Maguire, but nothing concrete has materialised on that front yet.
