Leicester’s three game winning streak across all competitions was brought to an abrupt halt as Everton came away from the King Power Stadium with three points thanks to a superb second half strike from Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The visitors had taken the lead through Richarlison’s 7th minute strike, but a superb counter attack before half time saw Ricardo Pereira draw the Foxes level.

Leicester’s Wes Morgan had been sent off in mid September against Bournemouth, and he collected another second half sending off here, dismissed in the 63rd minute. Morgan’s dismissal helped Everton register back to back wins for the first time this season, with Gylfi Sigurdsson scoring a superb individual goal from long range to sink the Foxes. The Toffees had beaten Fulham 3-0 prior to their visit to the King Power, and are now level on points with Leicester, with both teams having 12 points to show for their efforts after 8 games. Claude Puel got the better of his former club for the second time in succession as Harry Maguire’s late goal helped Leicester beat ten man Southampton at St.Mary’s.

Like last weekend’s game against Wolves, the Foxes were on the backfoot for most of the first half, with Saints enjoying plenty of possession and the visitors missing suspended striker Jamie Vardy.

Saints took the lead through a fierce Ryan Bertrand strike seven minutes after the interval, but Demarai Gray responded almost immediately for Leicester. Gray’s goal ended a 22 game league drought for the strike- his last goal before this came against Newcastle in December last year.

Leicester 2-0 Wolves 2018 | Lucky Foxes pick up first points of campaign

A lucky Leicester side, by the admission of their own manager Claude Puel, edged Wolves 2-0 at the King Power Stadium to take home their first points of the new Premier League campaign.

Wolves were clearly the dominant side in the first half, with Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves both hitting the woodwork. The visitors also missed a relatively simple tap in chance, and instead went 1-0 behind after Matt Doherty headed into his own net. Marc Albrighton’s cross into the box took a deflection off Conor Coady and onto Doherty before ending up as an unwitting own goal. Continue reading

Foxes start 2018/19 Premier League campaign on losing note

It was always going to be a tough ask first up, and Leicester City, as many might have predicted after seeing the H2H record between the two teams, went down 2-1 at Old Trafford on the opening night of the Premier League season.

Leicester City’s starting XI in a 4-4-1-1 formation- Schmeichel; Amartey, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell; Ricardo, Ndidi, Adrien Silva, Demarai Gray, James Maddison, Iheanacho

The Foxes got off to the worst possible start when referee Andre Marriner ruled that Amartey had handled the ball in the box. Up stepped Paul Pogba to make it 1-0 from the spot for United.

After surviving an initial barrage, Leicester actually grew into the game, with Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray getting plenty of space to run into on the left flank. United’s right side defence left plenty of gaps, with the likes of Darmian, Fred and Mata found wanting defensively at times.

It was eventually United who struck the killer blow- Luke Shaw’s first senior goal made it 2-0 to the Red Devils seven minutes from time. Leicester pulled one back through substitute Jamie Vardy, who headed in after David de Gea had allowed the initial cross to rebound back off the post.
