A lucky Leicester side, by the admission of their own manager Claude Puel, edged Wolves 2-0 at the King Power Stadium to take home their first points of the new Premier League campaign.

Wolves were clearly the dominant side in the first half, with Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves both hitting the woodwork. The visitors also missed a relatively simple tap in chance, and instead went 1-0 behind after Matt Doherty headed into his own net. Marc Albrighton’s cross into the box took a deflection off Conor Coady and onto Doherty before ending up as an unwitting own goal.

Leicester made it 2-0 at the interval, and there was again an element of luck involved, with James Maddison’s effort taking a deflection en route to goal.

The Foxes had to play for nearly half an hour following Jamie Vardy’s red card after a wild tackle against own goal scorer Doherty. Schmeichel was called into action later in the half, but the hosts held for all three points.

The only away side to win in Saturday’s round of fixtures were Bournemouth, with the Cherries producing a come from behind win against Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham. With the exception of Cardiff, who drew against Newcastle, all the other games on the day were won by the home side.
